School Lockdown Siren System Overview
With all Australian educational institutions now needing to be able to issue Lockdown & Evacuation alerts in the event of an emergency, many are now having to consider expensive options to deliver on their duty of care obligations.
The costs, logistical and training issues surrounding many of these systems often deter deployment of an appropriate solution. However, in response to customer requests for more flexible, more fully featurd, but lower cost and easier to use alert systems, there is a novel new solution that's fast establishing itself as the de facto standard in easily deployable, easy-to-use and highly effective Alert Siren Systems.
Forget expensive hard-wired cable backbones, centralised control panels, security access codes or keys and all the issues surrounding any centralised control system.
The iLAS ('Intelligent Lockdown & Alert Siren') system, also known as the School Lockdown Siren system, is a
modular, scalable, distributed, multiple alert siren solution. Comprising self-contained Siren Stations that are wirelessly networked and wirelessly activated via handheld remote controls, once installed, the entire network of sirens can be activated by any authorised user on site carrying a coded remote control. To activate an alert siren tone, you simply press the appropriate button on your remote control. Any Siren Station within range then activates, sounding the selected alert tone (with 3 tones available as standard, but with an additional 2 as options). The wireless network then ensures that every other Siren Station in the network is also activated with the selected tone. It's that simple.
With iLAS you can quickly and easily create a system because it has:
- NO distributed backbone control cabling
- NO centralised control panel
- NO single point that can cause a system failure
- FULL battery backup (and even a solar power option) for all Siren Stations
- SIREN-plus-VOICE alerts to ensure siren tones are clearly understood, even in a panic
- OPTIONAL VISUAL (flashing light) ALERTS where there are hearing impaired personnel or high background noise levels that might overwhelm the siren tones
Siren Stations are keyed to a site-specific security code and once installed, the entire network of Siren Stations can be wirelessly activated from anywhere within your campus using any of the security coded remote controls.
It's that simple!
iLAS emits distinct siren (or optionally, siren-plus-spoken-voice) warning sounds at a frequency that will cut through the background din of even the noisiest school playgrounds or factory or warehouse sites. Because the iLAS siren sounds are different from those used for fire alarms, school bells, hooters or emergency vehicle sirens, they're more readily associated with an emergency lockdown or evacuation alert. They comply with AS2220 and are very easily distinguished from other fire, alert or advisory sirens, bells or hooters.
Each siren base station also has a battery back-up system (and an optional solar charging system) so the entire network remains active even in a total power backout. It can even be installed in locations withouit 240CAV (mains) power, such as out buildings, temporary work camps, or sports fields.
The result is greater flexibility of design, lowered installation costs, greater reliability and the option to expand easily and inexpensively.
Simply add extra sirens, beacons, remote controls - even wireless repeaters to extend inter-siren distances (eg for sirens spread across a split campus separated by a roadway) - as required. All they need is to be keyed to the master remote control (kept in a secure location). The security coding system prevents hacking and activation/deactivation by unauthorised users.
iLAS is a simple and easily installed solution for applications such as:
-
educational institutions (schools, TAFEs, universities, private colleges)
-
factory, warehouse or distribution centres
-
single or split campus sites (eg, campuses separated by a road)
-
sites without permanent 240AC power available (eg construction sites)
